This Week in Crazy: Washington Times Speculates Anthony Weiner Converted to Islam *updated*

Just when I thought the Washington Times couldn’t sink any lower, well, it did.

You see, the Washington Times thinks your washroom is breeding Muslim extremists and pretty much any mainstream story, in their view, hides a more nefarious agenda. Just to show they can fit Islamofascism into any current event, today they have really outdone themselves in taking on the Anthony Weiener sexting/photo scandal:

Congressman Weiner‘s indiscretions, however, might end up inconveniencing the present Administration’s plans.

“How?” you might ask.

The clues may be found in the marriage of Huma Abedin, a devout Muslim, and Anthony Weiner, a Jew.

The marriage is interesting in that Abedin’s family obviously approved of the match. This is highly unusual for what appears to be a traditional Muslim family. Having worked for several years, and in various capacities, in the Muslim world of the Middle East, I have seen first-hand the structure and functioning of the respectful nuclear families that are the cornerstone of the Muslim faith.

[snip]

When looking broadly at the Anthony Weiner–Huma Abedin union, we have to wonder if the coupling of a Jewish American man and a Muslim woman of her pedigree was fostered by love or by a socialist political agenda.

[emphasis added]

Indeed.

Yes, there must be something suspicious about this marriage if a Jewish guy dares to marry a Muslim woman. The shame! It couldn’t possibly be because they fell in love or something as mundane as that. No, it must be the steady creep of an Islamic, socialist political agenda.

Oh, but there’s more:

Which begs the question of whether Huma Abedin been groomed by family and political leaders to carry this agenda forward? It’s noteworthy that Time Magazine listed Huma Abedin in its “40 under 40” list of the new generation of civic leaders and “rising stars in American politics.” That certainly puts her in a position to move the Alinsky-group agenda forward.

[snip]

Therefore we must consider that Mr. Weiner *may* have converted to Islam, because if he did not, we have to consider the unlikely, that being that Ms. Abedin has abandoned her Muslim faith, even while she still practices.

However, we should also bear in mind that any who are Jewish by orthodox standards will always remain Jewish, even if they have converted to another faith. This may explain rumors that Mr. Weiner went to his synagogue looking for moral support.

The question that begs to be asked, however, is, has Huma been groomed to access leading political movers and shakers to advance the cause of Islam in America, including a politically positioned marriage to Congressman Anthony Weiner?

If that is so, Anthony Weiner may be proven to be the weak link in a pro-Muslim political agenda.

I have to hand it to them, they’ve managed to throw in a reference to Saul Alinksy while also making the preposterous claim that Weiner may have converted to Islam.

Lets be honest, given Anthony Weiner’s staunchly pro-AIPAC views, if anyone was going to use a marriage to “advance the cause of Islam in America,” I would advise them against choosing Mr. Weiner to be their partner in that endeavor.

UPDATE: According to Justin Elliot over at Salon’s War Room, the article has been removed from the Washington Times website. I’ve noticed that Twitter was quite abuzz with the ridiculousness of the article. Justin also has some information on the author of the article, Eliana Benador, who apparently is a Goodwill Ambassador for some Israeli settler organization. After reading her wonderful article I “followed” her on Twitter but after criticizing the article she immediately blocked me. Heh.

What a joke. Does anybody really take the Washington Times seriously these days?

Lets see how long it takes for Fox News to pick up on this story- they better be careful though, from what I am hearing Abedin is very well liked in Washington so this sort of mudslinging at her may backfire.

Hello there Stacy. You can run but you can’t hide! 😉 Kidding.

Love the site but I hope you’ll keep posting general foreign policy info on your other blog! But I understand why you started this site- it lets you branch out a bit more with the Mideast stuff.

Re: this story in the Washington Times- did you see the author’s bio?

If you wonder how the WT can publish such crazy stuff keep in mind that Frank Gaffney also writes over there. ‘Nuff said.

You liberal losers don’t know your head from your ass. YOu want nothing less than the total eradication of the Jewish People. You don’t think there is a threat from Islamofascism? Well maybe next time they attack us like they did on September 11 YOU will be the one pushing daisies. Good riddance.

      Love the gravatar, Israel.
      Couldn’t have hand-picked a better one myself.

So…we seek the total eradication of the Jewish people? Does that include my husband? Children? Favorite rabbi?

I wouldn’t worry about total eradication until you hear that the US has declared itself a Cristian state; until troops wth bulldozers have surrounded Crown Heights; until huge barricades are built around most of South Florida; until unarmed peaceful demonstrators protesting the fact that they’ve been turned out of their retirement homes are gunned down in street; until any public observance of Yom Hashoah is
violently suppressed; until Hews are denied permits to build in certain neighborhoods; and so forth, and so on…

HA! So they had to remove the article from their website. Now that’s bad when even the Washington Times things someone has gone too far.

    Thanks for the update!

Anthony Weiner’s wife is Muslim. It is not the first time. Donald Swann’s mother was a Muslim while his father is English!

So what if his wife is Muslim? Or Christian? Or Hindu?

I should stop being so surprised at the rampant Islamophobia but I am just amazed at how people think it’s ok to talk about Muslims the same way people talked about Jews in the 1930’s-40’s.

The idea that because his wife is Muslim, she must have some evil political agenda, is crazy, hence the title of the post.
