Setting the Stage for the Upcoming Ethnic Cleansing of the Palestinians

Ynet has always been a rightwing rag but lately it’s become the home of outright racists. A friend of mine, who happens to be Palestinian-American, forwarded me this article and told me in her view, it’s the very definition of Apartheid. I agree with her.

Having been active in the South African divestment movement in the 80’s I am familiar with this sort of “if we all live together our cultural identity will be destroyed and the savages will take over and destroy us” type claptrap. That’s it is largely deemed acceptable discourse in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is telling. It would be tempting to write off the Ynet article were it not for the fact that the members of Congress who were jumping up and down applauding Benjamin Netanyahu during his Roman Triumph speech, largely agree with the sentiments expressed in the article. Sure, they aren’t as blatant, but there obsessive focus on keeping Israel “Jewish” and the promotion of the “Judafication” of the Occupied Territories is an explicit stamp of approval of racist policies.

Jewish state under attack

Op-ed: Terror groups, many Israeli Arabs have same aim; eliminating Israel as Jewish state

“On the political level, we have no option for a solution on the issue of Arabs in Israel,” Schueftan asserts today. “They are unwilling to accept a solution that is less than what is perceived as the Jewish nation-state’s suicide. We are dealing with an especially difficult branch of the complete rejection of the Jewish state in the Arab world.”

Schueftan claims that the use of universal messages such as “a state of all its citizens” hides a wholly different notion: An attempt to establish a bi-national state on the ruins of the Jewish state that will gradually change its demographic balance by rejecting the Law of Return and adopting the right of return. In the following phase, he says, the new demographic balance will dictate an Arab state. Despite the growing integration into Israel’s society and economy, Israel’s Arabs are committed to undermining the Jewish state’s current format, he says.

Meanwhile, since 1964, when the PLO was established, the Palestinian leadership has spearheaded a barbaric and deadly violent effort to undermine the existence of Israel and replace it with an Arab Muslim state. Since the 1980s the PLO was joined by Islamic terrorist organizations like Hamas and Islamic Jihad, whose aim also is to eliminate Israel.

But while Palestinian terrorists employ ruthless Islamic violence and Israel’s Arab leaders don’t, their aims coincide. Hamas, Fatah and many Israeli Arabs both aim for a political settlement where there will be one state for two peoples and perhaps no Jewish people at all.

The consequences of this are that Israel will cease to exist as a Jewish state, and the people of Israel will be subjugated to the wishes of an Arab regime operating an Islamic government. Benny Morris encapsulates what will happen if measures are not taken to block this trend:

“The effacement of the Jewishness of Palestine has characterized the Palestinian Arab national movement since it began. They want complete deletion of the Jewish presence in and history of the country…”

[emphasis added]

He says “we have no option for a solution on the issue of Arabs in Israel…” Ummmm…didn’t the Germans use that kind of hateful language when discussing the so-called “Jewish problem?” Unbelievable.

In addition to fetishizing victim-hood it is also exactly the same rhetoric used by White South Africans during Apartheid.

Yay, my gravatar worked- thanks Stacy. I’m an idiot and couldn’t get it to work so Stacy hooked me up and also found the image I had been looking for but couldn’t find. You are a mensch Stacy!

    • Stacy Says:

Glad I could help. I was searching for a way to make the avatars bigger but I haven’t figured that out yet. Micah actually found that image that you wanted- it’s a magnet on our fridge actually.

I also wanted to say you are doing an amazing job with all these updates. You’re on fire. If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t know about all this news even though I try to check out Israeli news every day. Sometimes though I don’t have the stomach for Ynet so thanks for going dumpster diving for us.

    • Stacy Says:

Thanks. Honestly Twitter has become my main source of news- I created an account for this blog last week and I follow as many Palestinians and people from the Middle East as possible, including human rights groups and news sources. It definitely has given me access to news I wouldn’t be aware of. Of course Ynet isn’t a good example of that- I’ve always been aware of Ynet and JPost etc.

Nice avatar Tovah. Too bad it’s not bigger so we could see the writing on the cheek and the star of David earring. I only know its there because I’m familiar with the poster ’cause a lot of the pro-Palestinian jewish blogs have that imagine on their site. I think its pretty cool.

The ynet article- its really hard to listen to Israel claim that every single thing is a threat to their very existence. Who has all the power? Israel. Who occupies Palestine? Israel. Who controls the checkpoints? Israel. Who controls the water and land resources? Israel. Who has nuclear weapons? Israel. Who has the most advanced military in the region? Israel. Who has the world’s superpower unequivocably on their side? Israel. Even when some extremist groups or Iran talk shit about Israel it’s not like they can turn words into action. Iran said they wanted to rid the world of Zionism- and? Even if Iran wanted to “wipe Israel off the map” they would have to first develop an advanced nuclear arsenal and then if they did attack Israel it would be suicidal because Israel has both first and second strike capability so as soon as Israel (and the US) detected an Iranian launch they would respond with their 200+ nuclear weapons and wipe Iran off the map. Remember mutually assured destruction? Isn’t that the point of deterrence? Don’t Israeli supporters claim that Israel needs the nukes to prevent anyone from messing with them? Alright then.

It never occurred to the US that countries in the Middle East have as much if not more to fear from Israel than the other way around.

My wife left me again. Where’s Carolyn? Is she cheating on me? What’s she doing acting like she has a LIFE or something?!?

    • Steve Says:

Maybe she’s uhhh, with her REAL family?!?

Where’s Seamus? Has he been around lately?

      • thainjacobs Says:

Yeah, well, I guess I can always amuse myself by tweeting random women I don’t know with cellphone pictures of my private parts- I hear that’s a classy way to make friends and influence people and not at all off-putting to the ladyfolk. Meh!

Seamus has been around. He was on the other blog this week.

    • Carolyn-Rodham Says:

Thain, love ya, but no nudie tweets please. 😉

If you read my comment to stacy’s most recent post (on Wash Po’s Diehl) you’ll see I am soooo technology challenged that it tokk me a full week to realize she’d added new threads!

Btw, is your last name really Jacobs? Because, although I go by my maiden name, my married name is Jacobs. Really!

      • thainjacobs Says:

Hello! Technology-challenged, huh? See, I could help with that!

You might be pleased to know that I have not now, or ever, snapped a photo of any nekked part of my body 🙂

Yes, my last name is really Jacobs. So, your real husband’s name is Jacobs? Hmmm…so this is fate then? I thought your last name was Rodham? 😉

  5. IsraelFirst Says:

Tovah gives being a Jew a bad name you are a traitor. Do you have any family members who died in the Holocaust because if you didn’t you wouldn’t call what Israel is doing ethnic cleansing. You are trying to delegitimze Israel and people like you liberal, self-hating Jews are as big a threat to Israel’s existence as the terrorists in Hamas are.

Your parents must be very proud

I have an idea, why don’t you go to Gaza and see how your Hamas friends feel about you being a Jew. Do you really think they wouldn’t shoot you dead just because you are a Jew?

    You liberals are so naive.

    • tovah8 Says:

I’ve noticed you Israel Firsters are quite an angry, hateful crowd. Congratulations, you’ve become just as hateful as those that have persecuted us.

Oh, and not that it’s any of your business but yes, I do have family members who died in the Holocaust. And? I think that when people like you use that tragedy as an excuse to oppress people and engage in ethnic cleansing, it is deplorable and offensive. It’s no way to remember or honor their memory. It is however a good way to make a mockery of it.

    • thainjacobs Says:

Shorter version of IsraelFirst’s comment: blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, angry, blah, blah, hate, blah, blah, victim, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
