Check out the independent Israeli media blog +972 for coverage of the Israeli governments’ repression of free speech and thuggish tactics with respect to the activists flying in to Ben Gurion airport to enter the West Bank.
The type of rationales for keeping out anyone with whom the right-wing Israeli government (and increasingly, the right wing populace) disagrees, are akin to those we hear spouted by the Chinese government in reference to the Dalai Lama. In other words, utter nonsense.
As usual, the U.S. mainstream media continues to shelter the U.S. population from the reality of the Occupation and its corrosive effect on not only the Israelis and Palestinians, but on the U.S. as a result of our complicity in it.
It’s clear that the United States and Israel are going to do everything possible to ensure that the Arab Spring never reaches the Palestinian Territories. How hypocritical of us.
On a more positive note, despite Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that Israel’s very existence was/is threatened by the arrival of the activists at Ben Gurion, I am pleased to announce that, in fact, as of today, Israel still exists.
