Obama Pushing Job-Killing Free Trade Agreements that He Opposed as a Candidate

Here’s what Candidate Obama said about these lousy trade deals at in 2008.

See here and here. There are three short videos at the link that are really worth watching because it shows what a bunch of BS this administration is selling us.

Experts say these trade agreements will result in net job losses as large corporations take advantage of cheap labor in South Korea, Panama, and Colombia. The trade agreement should be opposed with respect to Colombia simply because of the horrendous human rights abuses and deplorable treatment of workers. The other two agreements should be opposed because they represent the worst of NAFTA (which was/is terrible for our economy) and because the countries with whom we will be dealing will not abide by the rules.

Why would a President sign trade deals that will send tens of thousands of jobs overseas, encourage money laundering and provide a tax haven for U.S. businesses, all while our economy circles the drain? Maybe because these corporations will be giving money to the re-elect Barack Obama campaign as a quid pro quo?

Here is Dylan Ratigan on the three main trade deals- it’s a really good segment:

Could the news from the White House get any worse?

Having resigned myself to Obama’s re-election (because after all, consider the alternatives) now I’m resigned to Republicans gaining control of Congress and the White House. If that happens, and especially if we end up with another Texas governor as President, I am officially decathecting from all political debate and hanging up my blogging cleats. I thought I couldn’t feel any lower than I did in 1968 when Nixon/Agnew decimated Humphrey/Muskie just months after we’d lost MLK and Bobby Kennedy to assasins, and the era of political activism came to an end. But I was only 15 and had my whole life and many elections in front of me. It’s a helluva lot more depressing at 58.

Then I think maybe there’s more than one Thain out there and I feel a little more hopeful for my children!

No, no, no. You most certainly are not going to “decathect” from all political debate and hang up your blogging cleats! Surrender is not an option, plus, it’s obvious you like politics. The powers that be want us to shrug our shoulders and go “oh well, there’s nothing we can do” but we can let them know we are not letting them off the hook.

Stacy is correct and part of the reason the right is so successful is because they always yell the loudest and they never give up. Where the hell are progressives? It’s like they/we have already given up! All that does is empower the GOP. If the GOP gets control of Congress or the WH then they may put more supreme court judges on the bench which would be disaster. Roe v. Wade is under attack even with a democrat in the WH. We have to send a message to Obama that he needs to man up and start speaking out on this stuff- calling members of Congress, the WH, writing to media and blogging.

This fight ain’t over. In fact, it hasn’t even begun.

ps. Carolyn- what would Hillary do? Give up and stay quiet? Hell no.

Totally OT: Marc Grossman, who was recently promoted at the State Dept.as the Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan (replacing Holbrooke)- here’s a bit from his resume, from Wikipedia:

“In 2007, Grossman was one of fifteen US administration officials who were subpoenaed in a case which dealt with giving sensitive information to Israel, in association with the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC…”

    and

“Grossman was named by Sibel Edmonds as being involved in illegal activity in connection to links with the Turkish and Israeli governments. She also revealed that he was under investigation by the FBI. According to Edmonds:”(Grossman) became personally involved with operatives both from the Turkish government and from suspected criminal groups. He also had suspicious contact with a number of official and non-official Israelis. Grossman was removed from Turkey short of tour during a scandal referred to as ‘Susurluk’ by the media. It involved a
number of high-level criminals as well as senior army and intelligence officers with whom he had been in contact … Grossman assisted his Turkish and Israeli contacts directly, and he also facilitated access to members of Congress who might be inclined to help for reasons of their own or could be bribed into cooperation. The top person obtaining classified information was Congressman Tom Lantos. A Lantos associate, Alan Makovsky…”

    _______________________________
Lantos and Makovsky were also Israel Lobby hacks. Honestly, I guess you can be a criminal in the US govt so long as you are Jewish and commit your crimes for Israel. You would think Grossman might not get through his nomination hearing in the Senate…oh, but wait, the Israel Lobby controls the Senate. Never mind. Hillary recently attended some shindig in Lantos’ honor and Lantos’ grandson works in some high level position for Hillary at state. Affirmative action for rich kids of Israel Firster hacks.

BTW, Holbrooke was also involved in the Grossman/AIPAC scandal. But boy, it sure didn’t hurt his career did it? No, it seemed to help! I used to wonder why some of these folks didn’t just move to Israel but now I realize why- they need to be positioned to steal classified info./technology from the US to give to Israel so they need to be here. They also need to leverage American power and $$ in favor of/to Israel and the way to do that is to stay here obviously.

It sure a good thing the media doesn’t report on this stuff, doesn’t it, otherwise people might wonder why there are special rules for the Chosen Members of the Lobby and our government.

I knew Grossman was a lobby guy but I didn’t know all that.

Thain- On another note, you need to change the link to your gravatar photo because I just posted a comment on another blog and linked to this site and YOUR gravatar came up, which surprised me! I asked a friend about it and she said it’s because when I created your account that banksy photo you asked for was stored in my account originally and links to this website. Does that make sense? If not email me.
